Distances
The Allgäu Triathlon is divided into three disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. Unlike the first Allgäu Triathlon in 1983, where the Allgäu Triathlon distances were divided into 1.5km (swimming), 112km (cycling) and 25km (running), the distances have been adapted over time to the altitude and distances to be covered during the Allgäu Triathlon. Nowadays there are three distances for athletes to master at the Allgäu Triathlon. Sprint, Olymp and Classic.
Sprint
Starting at the big jetty of the Alpsee, the participants swim a loop of 0,5km towards the eastern shore. Afterwards the next phase starts - along the steep ramp at the Kalvarienberg via the village passages Eckarts and Niedersonthofen the participants cycle 26km over the Stixner Joch back to the Alpsee. A large running loop of 5km is contested by the participants along the Alpsee with a view of the Allgäu Alps. After mastering the last challenge, the Kuhsteig ramp, the athletes head towards the finish line at the Allgäu Triathlon Sprint course.
Olymp
The Olympic distance of the Allgäu Triathlon in Immenstadt starts with a big loop counterclockwise. A total of 1.5km has to be covered on the swim distance, which, like the sprint distance, ends on the eastern shore of the Alpsee. After the roll-in kilometer, it goes just as with the sprint distance on the ramp at the Kalvarienberg over the local passages Eckarts and Niedersonthofen. On the 42km long bike course the way leads further 620m up to the Ettensberg. Out of the transition area the athletes have to master the last hurdle, the 10.5km long run course.
Classic
As the last of the three Allgäu Triathlon distances, the Allgäu Triathlon Classic course means mastering the most difficult distances.
The start of the 1,9km long swim distance is followed by a 42km long bike distance. Unlike the Olympic distance, the Classic distance leads twice over the big lap instead of once. Here, too, the participants cycle up the ramp of the Kalvarienberg and pass through the villages of Eckarts and Niedersonthofen. Whole 1220m it goes on this cycle distance of the Allgäu Triathlon in height. After completion of the bike distance, a 20km long run course follows, which ends with the run into the finish straight after the second passage.
